Chili (25 May 1972)

Verne Mortvedt, Jr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Mortvedt, Sr., returned home for a 30-day leave Saturday morning from an Army base near Frankfurt, Germany. He will return again to Germany to serve the remainder of his 18-month overseas tour-of-duty.

Chili Homemakers met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Lloyd L. McCormick. Mrs. Lyle Zimmerman presented the project lesson on alcohol and highway safety.

A meeting was held Tuesday night to plan June Dairy Month activities for the Chili 4-H Club.

The ladies Aid Society o0f Christ Lutheran Church met Friday afternoon, May 19, at the church. The meeting opened with a hymn, “Jesus Shall Reign”. The Rev. Roland Roehrs read from Romans 10 and led the group in prayer. The topic, “Telling by Telephone”, was also presented by Rev. Roehrs.

Mrs. Melvin Bandt and Mrs. Henry Grottke, Jr., volunteered to sort and pack hymnals to be rebound. Mrs. Norman Faber was honored for her May birthday. The next meeting is to be held June 16.

New officers of the UCGO organization, elected at the May 18 meeting, are Mike Gallagher, president; Rodney Dix, Vice president; and Mrs. Mike Lindow, secretary and treasurer. The group met at the Gallagher home. Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Meissner presented the lesson, “Science versus the Bible.”

The next meeting will be held June 22 at the Lavern Meissner home. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dix, Jr., will the the lesson leaders.

Plans will be made to conduct a survey to evaluate the effectiveness of a recent project of devotional booklet distribution which the group undertook among shut-ins of the Immanuel of Chili and Zion of Marshfield, United Methodist churches and Grace Lutheran Church at Nasonville.
