Schaefer, Sophie (12 March 1891 - 19 April 1972)

Funeral services for Mrs. Soph8ie Schaefer, 81, of Memorial Home, who died April 19, were held Saturday, April 22, at 1:30 p.m. from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Georgas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schaefer, the daughter of Nazus and Elizabeth (Unterschitz) Dalawska, was born March 12, 1891, in Austria. She was educated there, and came to the United States at the age of 16. She worked for a time in Chicago and later moved to Clark County. Her marriage to Carl Genteman took place in 1912; Mr. Genteman died in 1924. She was married to Peter Schaefer at Neillsville in 1925; Mr. Schaefer died in 1962.

Mrs. Schaefer, a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, lived on farms in the towns of Levis and York before moving to Neillsville in 1942. She entered Memorial Home three years ago because of failing health.

Survivors include two sons, John Genteman of Marshfield and William Genteman of Chili; three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Genteman of Neillsville and Mrs. Ruth Werba and Mrs. Sam (Emily) Federrico, both of Chicago, Il; and nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: David Berlick, Vern R. Genteman, William Lucas, Francis Langreck, William J. Genteman and Thomas Genteman. Edward Schoenherr sang “Rock of Ages” and “Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me.” He was accompanied by Victor Lehmann.

Genteman and Michelle, South Milwaukee; Cpl. Vern R. Genteman, Hawaii; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Langreck and Mr. and Mrs. George Hales, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schoenherr and family, Rockford, Il; and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Boon, Greenwood.
