Horel, Rosanna (30 MAY 1839 - 26 Jul 1920)

Mrs. Rosanna Horel died at her home in this village (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) last Monday night after a painful illness that had confined her to her bed for a number of weeks.

The burial services were held at her late home, and the Methodist Church at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. J. W. Kendall, by her request, preaching the funeral sermon. May old friends gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to this estimable woman, one of the pioneer settlers of this community, who assisted with the hard labor, at a time when they enjoyed none of the conveniences of a half a century later. Interment was made in the Mentor Cemetery. Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L. Horna nd family of Withee, and Mrs. Jane Dickey of Magnolia, Minn.

Rosanna Dickey was born May 30, 1839, at Belfast, Maine, where her girlhood days were spent. She came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1854, settling in Richland County, where the mother died three years later. The family, in 1864, moved to Osseo. Her she met, and on April 3, 1865, married Robert Horel.

From the time of her marriage until 1897 she resided continuously on the home farm three miles from the village, since which time she has lived for the greater part in her home here.

The deceased was the mother of four children, Bert of this village, Bessie, who died in 1876, Mrs. Josephine Horn of Withee, and George of this village. Her husband died March 25, 1892. She was the eldest of a family of seven children, four brothers, of whom served in the Union Army during the Civil War. One brother survives, Alfonso Dickey, of Ashland, Oregon.

Mrs. Horel was a dutiful wife, a loving mother and a kind friend. A devout Christian woman, she was for many years a member of the Methodist Church.

Her age at the time of her death was 81 years, 1 months and 27 days.
