Dahlia Susa

Dahlia I Susa, 78, Greenwood, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, in the Palliative Care Unit at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. There were no services held.

Dahlia I. Butterbrodt was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Loyal, to Alvin and Bertha (nee Rau) Butterbrodt. She was raised on the family farm and educated in Prosperity country school west of Loyal. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1942. After completing her education, she went to work for Master Package, Owen, and later at the Farmer's Store, Greenwood. She married Robert Susa on June 14, 1947, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen. The couple farmed near Greenwood. She worked as a homemaker, raising her family of six children, and helped out on the farm. After her children were raised, she worked in Willard with the handicapped, which later became Adult Development Service, and then at Grassland Dairy. She continued to work and live on the farm until the time of her death. Her interests included baking wedding cakes, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and gardening.

Survivors include six children, Jacob (Diane) Susa, Marshfield, Thomas Susa, Greenwood, Judith Thomas, Wisconsin Rapids, Patty Susa, Greenwood, Penny (Jim) Smith, Marshfield, and Joseph (Sharon) Susa, Elk Mound; one daughter-in-law, Marlene (George) Kippenhan, Franksville; 10 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; one brother, William (Luella) Butterbrodt, Loyal; and one sister, Beverly (Tom) Stirmel, Eau Claire.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert, on May 14, 1990; one great-grandson, Ethan Thomas, one brother, Allison Butterbrodt; and two sisters, Irene Hepner and Lorraine Brown.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
