Babler, John (31 OCT 1856)

John Babler was born at New Glarus, Wis., Oct. 31, 1856. He was married in the fall of 1878 and moved to Disco in 1893. There are three children, Mrs. Johnson of North Dakota, John and May. He considers the dairy business the commencement of Humbird, Clark County, Wis.'s prosperity. Our future will be prosperous if the farmers hold to the dairy business, for it will bring the money and trade here. We compare favorably with Merrillan, but are not as good as Fairchild or Alma Center. Fairchild has more moneyed men and Alma Center is surrounded by better farming country. Our cement walks, brick buildings, creamery and cheese factory have been a great improvement and what we now need is the immigration of industrious people.

Since coming here Mr. Babler has put a great deal of money into the town and it is owing largely to him that we stand where we do today. The First State Bank, of which he is president, was started about one year ago and is now in a prosperous condition. There are many other enterprises that he is helping along and interested in, and too much praise cannot be given him for his efforts to make Humbird an outstanding town.
