Funeral services were conducted in the York Center Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday for Mrs. Belle Smith, 81, who died in St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield at 1 p.m. Friday. She was brought to the hospital after suffering a stroke Friday morning. Rev. Leo Chapman officiated and burial was made in the York Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by the Myre Funeral Home. The former Belle Benedict was born in York Center May 9, 1881, and was married there in November of 1902 to Guy Smith, who preceded her in death on August 21, 1930. She lived her early life in York Center and taught in rural schools of that area prior to her marriage. After the marriage, the couple purchased land east of Loyal, and lived there the remainder of their lives. Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Isabelle) Rundle, Racine; three sons, Robert Smith, of Loyal; and Glen and Eugene Smith, both of Racine; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Rollie Benedict, Loyal. A daughter, Mrs. James (Violet) Anderson, died in Idaho last Tuesday. Two brothers also preceded Mrs. Smith in death. Pallbearers were Dennis Larson, Richard Larson, Herb Fensome, Milton Lokiken, Henry Lemke and Earl Cammers. Mrs. Norbert Lavey and Nyle Benedict sang "Under His Wings" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." They were accompanied by Mrs. Donald Pinkerton at the piano. Attending from away were Mr. & Mrs. Paul Smith, Mr. & Mrs. Glen Smith, Timmy Smith, Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Smith, Edward, James and Dawn, Mr. & Mrs. Wilbur Rundle and daughter Janice, Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Benedict, Rev. and Mrs. Harold Frye and Miss Judy Smith, all of Racine; Mr. & Mrs. L.E. Bowman, Hatfield; Mr. & Mrs. Donald Pinkerton and Mrs. Norbert Lavey of Wisconsin Rapids.
