Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Neillsville Methodist Church for Jesse F. Mortimer, 78, who died early Thursday morning at his home. He had been in failing health for several months. The Rev. Virgil Holmes officiated. Burial took place in the Town of York Cemetery. Mr. Mortimer was born August 21, 1877, in the Town of York to William and Stella (Petitt) Mortimer. He received his education and grew to manhood there. His present farm is only a half mile form his early boyhood home. Mr. Mortimer's marriage to Belle Davis took place in Neillsville on June 25, 1903. Following their marriage they farmed in the Town of York, which was their home until they moved to Neillsville in 1945. He is survived by this wife, a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Helen) Lawrence of Granton, Wisconsin, Route 1; two brothers, Raymond and George of Granton, Route 1. Mr. Mortimer was a member of the Methodist Church. Pallbearers were: Edward Voight, Frank Jahr, Louis Wiesner, Arthur Garbush, George Hales, and Emil Schoenfeld. Soloist H. M. Briggs sang two selections, accompanied by Miss Sherry Briggs. Out-of-town relatives attending were: Jay Davis, Milwaukee; Mrs. Agnes Schwarze, Mr. & Mrs. Marvin Ernst, Weyauwega; Mr. & Mrs. Frank Haas, Herman Jordan and Arthur Mortimer, Chilton; Walter, Ronald, John, Ralph and Dolf Mortimer, and Harry Jordan, Wonewoc; Mr. & Mrs. James Oberle and son and Mrs. Leland Bandelow, Menomonie; Mr. & Mrs. Joe Davis, Stevens Point; Joseph and Robert Borgwordt, Osseo; Mr. & Mrs. Emil Korth, Ft. Atkinson; Mr. & Mrs. Horace Lawrence, Mr. & Mrs. Marvin Mortimer, Mr. & Mrs. Donald Kier and Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Smith, all of Marshfield; Mr. & Mrs. Ray Horn, Mr. & Mrs. Nyle Benedict and family, Mrs. Norbert Lavey, Frank and Mrs. Lulloff and William; Mr. & Mrs. Morvin Benedict, George Dahl, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Drake, all of Loyal; Mr. & Mrs. Francis Jacobson and Beverly, Pittsville.
