Looking Backwards

The top ten students at S-BHS were announced at Thursday's graduation ceremonies. They are Valedictorian Inga Abrahamson, Matt Christianson, Jewel Turenne, Ron Selzer, Ryan Winkler, Jessica Lato, Laurie Anderson, Todd Rowekamp, Sarah Pozdell and Stephen Schemenauer.

25 Years Ago, May 26, 1977 Matt Smoczyk, Mike Smoczyk, Bob Henke and Lori Smasal will advance to the sectional track and field meet. The Class of 1977, consisting of 124 members, will graduate tonight. The class valedictorian is Tamara Huls and Beth Miller is the saluatorian.

40 Years Ago, May 31, 1962 Two large barns have been destroyed by fire in a period of three days. On Saturday, the barn on the Walter Gindt farm in Edson, a mile south of Boyd, burned. The second fire broke out Monday evening at the Albert Wisocky farm, about five miles southeast of Stanley.

50 Years Ago, May 29, 1952 Fifty-nine seniors will graduate at Stanley High Schools's 52nd annual commencement program tonight.

Arthur A. Gafney is retiring after 28 years of teaching at Stanley High School and will begin a new career selling. He was a manual arts teacher for 27 years and taught mathematics this past year. He is a 1915 graduate of Stanley High School.

The city council received the resignation of Harley Swim as night policeman.

60 Years Ago, May 29, 1942 The scrap collected in Clark County during MacArthur Week amounted to 105,846 pounds.

70 Years Ago, May 27, 1932 Arthur Gaffney announced that six trees will be planted at the high school next Monday morning with formal ceremonies as memorials to boys and teachers who gave their lives in the World War.

100 Years Ago, May 31, 1902 Seven students graduated from Stanley High School last Thursday night. Commencement exercises were held at the Opera House.
