HARRIET A. TUFTS

Harriet A. Meek, daughter of George and Sarah Harmer Meek, was born at Alma Center, Wisconsin, October 17, 1875. At the age of about eleven, she moved with her parents to Greenwood where she greww up attending the grade and high school. Subsequent to finishing school she taught at Braun Settlement, Green Grove, Frenchtown and Owen.

In 1897 she married Daniel J. Tufts of Withee, who preceded her in death in 1928. After her marriage she moved to Withee where she lived until her death, October 3, 1935.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Greenwood and the Royal Neighbors of Withee. She was an earnest worker in church and community circles and was employed as librarian for many years. At5 the time of her death she was also a member of the Village Board.

She leave to mourn her death, her mother, Mrs. Sarah Meek, two sons, William B. of Neillsville, Donald J. of ST. Paul, one daughter, Ferne of Tripolie, Wis., three brothers, Charles Meek of Mabton, Washington, Hugh and Ralph Meek of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. One daughter, Grace, preceded her in death in 1924.

During her life, Mrs. Tufts worked hard for the welfare of her family and community. She was a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor and her good deeds will be remembered by her many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Withee Methodist church with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
