Weirich, Ina (24 JUL 1896 - 18 Jul 1923)

A telegram was received here this morning telling of the death of Miss Ina Weirich, which occurred Wednesday at Phoenix, Ariz., at which place she had been since early last fall.

Miss Weirich, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. J. P. Weirich, went to Phoenix last fall in hopes that a change of climate would restore her to normal health, and for a time it was thought that the change was beneficial. After the new year, Mr. Weirich went west to spend several weeks with his daughter, expecting to return home early in the spring, but her condition did not warrant his return, so he remained to be with her until the last.

The message states that Mr. and Mrs. Weirich will return with the body of their daughter next week, leaving Phoenix Sunday, and they will go direct to Baraboo, their old home, where the funeral will be held.

Miss Weirich was one of the finest young ladies of the city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.), having grown to womanhood here, and was loved by everyone that knew her. Her loss will not be mourned only by her parents and relatives, but by the entire community. The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of all.

A deep shadow was cast over the community and heartfelt sympathy expressed by everyone when the news reached here that Ina Weirich had passed from this earth into her heavenly home.

Ina Rachel Weirich was born in Prairie du Sac, Wis., July 24, 1896 and passed on to the better land at Phoenix, Ariz. On July 18, 1923.

Much can be said of her sweet and kindly disposition and her helpful nature to those with whom she came in contact makes us able to say that to know her was to love her.

At the age of six years she moved with her parents to Owen, Wis., where she later graduated from the Owen High School, where she was also a successful teacher. She attended the Stevens Point Normal and the Milwaukee Normal. While attending the last mentioned her health began to fail. Medical aid was at once sought and last October she accompanied by her mother went to Phoenix, Ariz. In hopes of returning health. In January her father went also. Al that medical aid and loving hands could do was done, but God will otherwise and took her home to be with him.

Short services were held at Phoenix on Monday, July 23, rev. Dr. Robinson of the First Presbyterian Church ministering, after which the remains, accompanied by her sorrowing mother and father were brought to Baraboo. Here, on Saturday, July 28, a large number of relatives and friends attended services which were conducted by Rev. Moore of the First M. E. Church, who offered comforting words from the test: "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall he lived. And who soever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."

During his address he read the poem which was the favorite of the departed and had been saved by her request.

Stevens Point , Wisconsin Central State Teachers' College

In 1927 Stevens Point Normal School became Central State Teachers College and began offering four-year teaching degrees. When post-World War II enrollment became less centered on teacher training and more focused on liberal arts education, the Wisconsin State Legislature intervened, elevating the school to a Wisconsin State College with the authority to grant bachelor's degrees in liberal arts.
