Kropelin, Herman (28 Augl 1890 - 16 OCT 1927)

Herman Kropelin, who was injured at Unity, Wis., Monday, Oct. 10, while unloading a drill stem from a wagon, preparatory to drilling, died at the Marshfield Hospital as the result of his injuries Friday morning, Oct. 16, 1927, at 3:50 a.m. Funeral services were held at the St. John's Church, Rev. Schwarze officiating, Tuesday, Oct. 18, and interment made in the Colby Cemetery.

The deceased was born in the town of Chilton, Calumet Co., Wis., on Aug. 28, 1890, thus reaching the age of thirty-seven years, two months and seventeen days. He came to Colby, Wis. with his parents in 1903 and resided on a farm six miles east of Colby since. He served in the U. S. Army during the World War and served in the front line trenches in France, where he was wounded. He was in the army about eleven months. At the time of his death, he had his farm rented to Armen Bartz and was assisting his brother, Edward, in the well drilling business.

Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kropelin, his departure to the distant shore is mourned by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Frank Sellung, Milwaukee, Mrs. Harvey Bartz, Colby: Mrs. Herman Podevels, Colby, Mrs. Armen Bartz of Colby, Adolph Kropelin, Fort Francis, Canada, Edward, August and Arnold Kropelin, Colby.

The news of the deceased's injury, and later, his death, came as a shock, barbed with pain and sorrow, to his relatives and friends in Colby and vicinity. But now he is gone, although it seems but yesterday since he was seen on our streets greeting his friends in a kindly and cheerful way.

He was well known here and had many friends who extend sympathy to the mourners.
