Fitzgibbon, Clara (15 Sep 1857 - 15 Mar 1926)

Mrs. John Fitzgibbon, whose death was chronicled in the Phonograph last week, was laid to rest in the Colby Cemetery last Thursday afternoon, funeral services being held at the Methodist Church, Rev. Parker officiating. The pallbearers were Adam Reyer, C. Joe Kraus, John Schneider, John Atkins, Emil Fasbender and Fred Olson.

The deceased was born in Tolls Hill, Maine, Sept. 15, 1857, and died of apoplexy, Monday Mar. 15, 1926, thus reaching the age of 68 years and 6 months. In 1866 she moved to Kewaunee Co., and in 1875 was married to John Fitzgibbon at Cases, Wis. to this union, eight children were born, one of whom, Robert, died at Chauming, Mich., in July 1924. The children still living are: Nellie B. Kaul, Cases, Wis., Elizabeth Merritt, Green Bay, Wis., Emma C. Boerecker, Kewaunee, Wis., Anna C. Jackson, Hettinger, N. D., Mae E. Mohr, Livingston, Mont., Thomas Fitzgibbon, Colby, Wis., William Fitzgibbon, Portland, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgibbon came to Colby, Wis. in 1921.

Besides her heart broken husband and children, her departure to the undiscovered country is mourned by two sisters, Anna O'Neil, Green Bay, Wis., and Elizabeth Meyer, Kewaunee, Wis., and one brother, Frank Knigh, Menomonie, Wis.

Besides the children, the following were here from out of town for the funeral: Earl Merritt and wife of Green Bay, Mrs. Anna O'Neil, Green Bay, Mrs. B. H. Bie, Green Bay, F. M. Jackson, Hettinger, N.D.

The deceased was entirely devoted to her family and her hand was never weary and her step never failed in caring for and ministering to those who were in any way dependent upon her. Although she belonged to no church, she lived according to God's laws in the big book of Nature. She believed in doing good for the sake of humanity and not in the fear of the anger and vengeance of a higher power.
