Neillsville has over 2000 population.

B F. Thompson and wife, of Greenwood, returned yesterday from a visit at Moline, Ill.

Mrs. Fannie Merrill went to Humbird last Saturday to visit her daughter, Mrs. F. a. Freeman.

C. B. Withee, of La Crosse, was up last week visiting his father, H. N. Withee. Charles expects to be in the city frequently this winter in connection with logging.

The young people of this city gave Mrs. J. H. Preston a surprise party on Friday eve. last. About fifty attended and all report one of the finest times of the season.

The Merrill News has the following to say of one of the specimen tramps: "Sunday, while Mr. and Mrs. Sturdevant were out walking, a tramp entered their house, ate a tumblerful of jelly, half a cake, half a loaf of bread, a lot of cold meat, then went into the barn and took a nap. "Lige" discovered the tramp asleep. On awakening he exhibited the American independence - sometimes called cheek - of asking Lige to brush the hay from his coat.
