Ryder, Willard H. (3 Jul 1875 - 13 JUN 1925)

Abbotsford people were shocked hearing of the death of Mr. Ryder at Marshfield Hospital Saturday morning, June 13, 1925. He had been seriously injured last Wednesday when he was struck by passenger train No. 111, as it was coming down grade just south of the depot. Though his injuries were numerous, it was not expected that they would prove fatal. A post mortem examination showed no internal injuries, but it is thought that a blood clot formed, causing congestion of the lungs and thus death.

Willard Henry Ryder was born in Waukesha Co., July 3, 1878, being nearly 47 years of age at the time of his death. He moved here (Abbotsford, Wis.) with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ryder, when he was a young lad, and has made his home here for more than thirty years.

In Feb. 1895 he was married to Ida Yerke at Butternut, Wis. Three daughters and one son were born to this union, all of who survive him.

Mr. Ryder started to work for the Soo Line nearly thirty years ago, and since 1906 had been an engineer. He was a steady, hard working man, devoted to his family and won the respect of everyone who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, three daughters, Mrs. Al Horn of Urbana, Ill., Mrs. Louis Arneson of Stevens Point, Norma, one son Raymond of Abbotsford, five grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Clause Sherman of Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held at the home and at the M. E. Church at Colby, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Burial took place in the Colby Cemetery.

A special train, donated by the Soo Line, brought about forty people from Stevens Point, among them twenty engineers and officials.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Al Horn and children of Urbana, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Louis Arneson and children of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sherman of Minneapolis, Supt. W. W. Wade, Mr. Filmore, Mr. Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Brouten, Mesdames Nohr, Davidson, Brown, Bulson, Spaulding, Mordt and Grover of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Austen of Medford and Mr. and Mrs. Al Phipps of Chippewa Falls.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family in this hour of sorrow.
