Kliefoth, Alma (Marriage - 5 JUN 1919)

The Methodist Church, Colby, Wis., was the scene of a pretty wedding Thursday, June 5, 1919, when Miss Alma Kliefoth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kliefoth of this city was united in marriage to Mr. John Conrad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Conrad, living six and one-half miles northwest of Colby.

Promptly at four o'clock to the strains of Marionette's wedding march played by Miss Irma Zillman, the bridal party entered the church in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends, where Rev. J. H. Paul, in a solemn but impressive manner, spoke the words uniting the lives of these young people, the occasion being the double ring ceremony.

The bride was handsomely attired in a wedding gown of white silk crepe de chine and georgette trimmed with Venetian lace and pearls, and wore an embroidered veil and bridal wreath carrying a bouquet of white carnations. The bridesmaids, Misses Lillian Behnke and Esther Parker, wore gowns of pink silk mescaline trimmed with silk mullein and silver lace. Messrs. Wm. Hoffman of Wausau and Clarence Kliefoth of Cherokee, cousins of the bride, acted as best men.

Miss Bertha Conrad of Horicon, Mrs. Hubert Hoffman and daughter, Mrs. Joseph Hoffman and daughter and Mrs. Wm. Hoffman, all of Wausau, were guests from out of town attending the wedding.

Both bride and groom have made this city their home most of their life and are too well known to warrant further comment, but judging from the large number of presents received, have a host of friends in and around Colby, who with the Phonograph, join in wishing them happiness and prosperity through their wedded life.

BioM: Kliefoth, Alma (Marriage - 1919)

I'm trying to find relatives of Maria Kliefoth, my paternal great, great grandmother, who emigrated to Canada about 1857. Does this ring any bells? She was a widow at that time, and I believe she came to Canada with her daughter and son in law, Frederick Rahn, and lived very close to another daughter Wilhelmina Lasch. They lived in Waterloo County, Ontario where Maria died in July, 1882. Church records reveal that they came from Pomerania (Pommern), Prussia. I'd be happy to hear from anyone about the origin of this family in Prussia. Thanks, Margaret Cooper
