Girl Dies in July 1, 2003 Accident

Town of Warner--A 13-year-old Greenwood girl lost her life in a Jul 1 accident involving an off-road vehicle on a town of Warner road.

Megan J. Ehlen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident near the intersection of Sidney Avenue and Capital Road, northwest of Greenwood. The Clark County Sheriff's Department said Ehlen was driving a John Deere gator type vehicle on Capital Road and was approaching the Sidney Avenue intersection when she apparently lost control of the machine.

The vehicle entered the north ditch and overturned, pinning the girl underneath, Riding with her was her 10-year-old brother, Brady D. Ehlen. He was able to crawl out from under the vehicle and went for help. He contacted several area Amish neighbors who were able to lift the vehicle from the girl. However, she was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene by Clark County deputy coroner Robert Lulloff.

The Sheriff's Department said the fatality May not be classified as a traffic death because of the type of vehicle involved and the manner in which it was being operated. If the state classifies the fatality as a traffic death, it would be Clark County's fifth in 2003.
