Leonard J. Anderson 1926-2003

Leonard J. Anderson, 76, passed away on March 23 at Lakeside Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls.

Leonard was born on May 10, 1926 in Stanley, the son of Charles and Anna (Johnson) Anderson. He grew up in Stanley and attended area schools.

Leonard served in the U. S. Navy from April 17, 1944 to May 7, 1946. After basic training, he shipped off to the South Pacific. He fought in Okinawa during World War II.

After his stretch in the Navy, Leonard went home to Stanley to work on the home farm. He joined the Drum and Bugle Corp.

Leonard married Barb Von Haden on October 15, 1955, at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. He farmed, and in 1967, went to work at the Wisconsin Northern Center, working there until retiring in 1989. He has resided in Cadott since 1993.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Barb; four sons, Ronald (Julie) of Becker of Minn., Bruce of Stanley, Richard (Karyn) of Stanley and Mark (Jacki) of Stanley; his grandchildren, Dane, Brent, Katrina, Jessica, Cassandra, Sarah and Emily; his step-children, Kelly, LeaHanna, T. J. Zackary, Fredrick and Maggie; two brothers: Charles (Dorothy) and George (Irma) Anderson; two sisters-in-laws, Evelyn and Laura Anderson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna; two brothers, Arnold and Murnie; two nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Pastor William Stewart will officiate.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by Stanley VFW Post 2711.
