Campden, Son of August (1902? - 1 Sep 1911)

August Campden and nine-year-old son were struck by a train while driving a single horse in a top buggy with the top up on a railroad crossing near Chili, Clark County, Wis. on Friday morning at eleven o'clock. The supposition is that they did not hear the train until it was too late.

The boy's neck was broken and he died instantly and the father received numerous bruises all over his body and head and is not expected to live. Both were taken to Neillsville on the same train.

The buggy was smashed into kindling wood and the horse thrown several rods and killed.

They were nearly home at the time of the accident, as their farm land adjoins the track near the crossing.
