Lars Jacobson (15 Nov 1846 - 17 Jun 1881)

From the Colby Phonograph regarding a mill accident that occurred two weeks previous:

"A board had been run through the gang edger and a considerable of a strip taken off when R. Dye, who tends the slalesaw, took the strip to cut up. Fred Wilcox, who runs the edger, seeing the strip was wide enough to make a four inch piece, motioned to have it sent back, and Dye, instead of passing it back over a roller, placed for that purpose, passed it directly over the saws, when one of the saws caught it and burled it at lightning speed across the mill directly toward the two men, Lars Jacobson and Andrew Dennis, who were talking together near the edger. The edging split, one piece striking Jacobson in the left groin, penetrating the abdominal cavity and severing the abdominal artery; the other piece struck Dennis a side glancing blow on the left thigh, bruising that member. As Jacobsen dropped to the floor a number of men ran to his assistance, the mill was shut down and Dr. Beach promptly summoned, who after a careful examination of the wound, gave his decision as above, and stated that the man could live but a few hours at the most. A stretcher was rigged up and the injured man removed to N. P. Peterson’s, where he breathed his last at about four o-clock. The deceased was a Dane, a young man about 29 years of age and of excellent habits, whose home was near Waupaca, where he has a mother and two brothers living, and to which his remains were taken the day following death.

(Note - I have changed the birth date for Lars from 17 Jan 1852 based on the following information:

Hi

I can see that you have not yet corrected the date of birth for Lars Jacobsen - Louis Jackson. I enclose church record for his birth on 15th November 1846 in Fodby parish (entry no 11) and record for his mariage to Maren Kirstine Nielsen in Haslev on 6th April 1873 (entry no 2).
