McCarty, Edward (27 NOV 1878 - 1 Sep 1897)

Edward McCarty, son of Mrs. George Solaman, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Burke on Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 1897, as a result of an injury sustained while at Longwood, Clark County, Wis. with the ball club on Sunday, Aug. 25th, where he received a heavy blow in the side by accidentally running into a wagon. At the time Eddie was injured he paid little attention to it and went about his duties on Monday and Tuesday in a usual manner, but Tuesday evening began to complain and it became quite evident that his injuries were of an internal and quite serious nature. Eddie was born at Kingston, Green Lake County, Wis., on Nov. 27, 1878. His father died a year later when Eddie became a member of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Burke, and since their death has continued to reside with George Burke. Eddie was a well behaved young man, steady in his habits, courteous at all times and his sudden death is deeply deplored by all his friends and acquaintances. He leaves a stricken mother, two sisters, Mrs. Phoebe McDonald of Portage and Mrs. Louis Goss, and one brother, Bennie McCarty. Also he leaves two half-sisters, Eliza and Mamie Nettleton, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their great affliction. The funeral will take place from the Catholic Church tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m.

We May also add that up to the evening before his death, Eddie had never tasted intoxicating drinks of any kind during his life.
