Elmhorst, Marcia C. (13 Nov 1911 - 18 Feb 2003)

GRANTON - Marcia Christine Elmhorst, age 91, of Granton, Clark County, Wis., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, at the Zion Lutheran Missouri Synod Church in Granton. Pastor John Trewyn will officiate. Music will be provided by Caroline Helm, organist and Catherine Winter and Connie Curran vocalists. Burial will take place in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton.

Casket Bearers are her grandchildren: Dan Curran, Kyle Curran, Daniel Elmhorst, Kurt Elmhorst, Matthew Elmhorst, Rick Elmhorst, Alan Scharf and Kevin Winter.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Christine's family with arrangements.

Marcia Christine was born on November 13, 1911, in Sheboygan Falls, the daughter of Fred and Grace May (Poole) Daniels. She graduated from Granton High School and then attended Teacher's Training in Neillsville. She graduated a year later and taught for one year at the Columbia School in Hewitt Township. On January 24, 1934, she married Frederick Elmhorst at the Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. After their marriage they farmed in the town of York. Along with helping with the farming duties, Christine also raised her family and did the bookkeeping for her husband's logging business. In their retirement years, they enjoyed selling Christmas trees in South Dakota and Texas and traveling throughout the United States. Christine enjoyed attending the Lutheran Women's Missionary League at the Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville. She would often tape the church service at the Zion Lutheran Church and then play it for the residents of the nursing home. She will be remembered as a loving mother and wonderful role model.

Survivors include three daughters, Gerry Scharf of Granton, Catherine (Richard) Winter of Granton and Barbara (David) Bendlin of Milton; two sons, Frederick "Fritz" (Margo) Elmhorst of Lakeland, Fla. and Thomas (Jeanne) Elmhorst of Albuquerque, N.M.; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Canfield of Granton and Marie (Robert) Ratsch of Neillsville; four sisters-in-law, Luella Bragg of Neillsville, Pearl Elmhorst of Neillsville, Elaine Briars of Chicago and Gertrude Elmhorst of Elgin, Ill.; one brother-in-law, Henry Elmhorst of Neillsville and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Frederick; her parents; one son, David Elmhorst; one infant daughter, Marcia Elmhorst; one grandson, Gary Scharf; a sister, Dorothy Elmhorst; two brothers, Maurice Daniels and Frederick Daniels and one son-in-law, Donald Scharf
