Campbell, William (11 Jul 1838 - 17 Oct 1919)

Wm. Campbell, one of Neillsville's oldest residents, died at the Veteran's Home in Waupaca, Oct. 17, 1919, aged 81 years, 3 months and 6 days. Mr. Campbell was born in Ohio, July 11, 1838. He came to Wisconsin and settled in Monroe, Wis., when 20 years old, where he lived till 1872 when he came to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., which has been his home ever since, except when staying at the Veteran's Home. He served in the Civil War in the 38th Wis., Vol. And made a good record as a soldier. He was for many years a member of the G.A. R. Post.

Mr. Campbell followed the mason trade many years of his life and was a consistent and faithful workman. For many years he was a member of the Methodist Church.

He leaves four sons and three daughters: Ezra of Neillsville, J. W. Campbell of Bemidji, Minn., Wm. C. of Duluth, Burton of California, Della Wesenberg, Neillsville, Bessie Whittier in Seattle, and Pearl James of Wausaukee, Wis.

The remains were brought here Saturday to the home of his son Ezra, and the funeral was held Monday from the M. E. Church, Rev. L. B. Colman officiating.
