Crothers, Electa F. (7 Nov 1867 - 7 Oct 1919)

Mrs. George E. Crothers died at the hospital in Marshfield in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, 1919, a week after a surgical operation.

Electa Faith Johnson was born at Oxford, Wis., Nov. 7, 1867. She was the daughter of Wm. N. and Mary J. Mereness Johnson. She attended the country and village schools, Oshkosh Normal and Downer College, and taught school. On Jan. 5, 1893, she was married to George E. Crothers and came to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. as a bride, and (except for one summer when the family lived at Clarkston, Wash.) Neillsville has been her home since.

At an early age she joined the Presbyterian Church, of which her ancestors for many generations had been members. Her life, from childhood was one of work and thought of others and devotion to the world's great causes. In her home she was wise and practical, working hard with her hands, but always ready to give her time and energy to help in public movements. She loved the flowers and woods, the fields and farm animals, her family and friends. She was pure of mind and heart, sincere and devoted to all those things which she felt would help humanity onward and upward. When the Great War came she threw all her patriotic energies into the cause of her country, working faithfully and well, but quietly and modestly, in all its activities where she could. She rejoiced in peace, but saw yet before us many things to be accomplished, in which she would have helped if she had lived.

It was a great thing, of which one May well be glad, to have had her love and companionship, and to have with us the many blessed memories which that love and companionship have given.

She leaves her husband and three children: Donald and Wendell, young men now at home, and Marie, a junior in high school. She leaves also three brothers: E. C. Johnson of Packwaukee, T. B. Johnson of Endeavor and John M. Johnson of Oxford; and one sister, Mrs. C. U. Morgan of Oxford.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at the home. Rev. G. W. Longenecker will preach the funeral sermon, and the Eastern star, of which deceased was a member, assisting in the services.
