Hoganson, Bertha (4 Dec 1853 - 23 Feb 1917)

Bertha Jorgenson was born Dec. 4, 1853 at Ringsakn, Norway, and grew to womanhood there, and there was married in 1877 to Mr. Louis Hoganson. They came to this country in 1879 and have made their home in Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. most of the time since. In 1913 they moved to Portland, Ore., where they have resided since, and there she died Friday, Feb. 23, 1917, of a paralytic stroke, it being the third stroke she had suffered.

Mrs. Hoganson was a kind mother, good wife and a helpful neighbor. She was a devout Christian, living up to the principles of her religion in her every day life.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and seven children: three sons, Hans of Tioga; John of St. Paul; Albert of Portland, and four daughters, Christie and Bessie, of La Crosse; Jennie of Florence, N.D., and Laura Birdine, of Portland. She leaves also a brother, Hans Jorgenson in N.D., a brother John in Norway, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Harper in Portland, Ore and Lena Jorgenson in Norway.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Portland, and the remains brought to Neillsville for burial, services also being held here in the Norwegian Lutheran Church Saturday, March 3rd, Rev. H. Brandt officiating. The three sons and three sons-in-law acted as pallbearers.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Waggoner and Mr. and Mrs. John Barney of La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Jostad of Florence S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hoganson of Tioga; John Hoganson of St. Paul; Albert Hoganson of Portland; Albert Anderson, a nephew, of Mondovi.
