Brandt, Wilhelmine (3 Apr 1860 - 24 Augl 1916)

Mrs. Brandt, wife of Rev. H. Brandt, died at their home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), Aug. 24, 1916, after an illness of about a year.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Wilhelmine Hilgendorf, was born in Germany, April 3, 1860. She came with her widowed mother and her family to Chicago at the age of four years. She was married to Mr. Brandt Dec. 31, 1882. In 1904 they came to Neillsville, Mr. Brandt being assigned as pastor of the Ev. Lutheran Church. By her devotion to the highest ideals of womanhood, the home and family, humble Christian service, and kindly helpfulness, she won the quiet admiration of all that knew her. Beyond all estimates is the life of her and such good women as she, to our community and country. They are the true builders of the nation.

To Mr. and Mrs. Brandt were born eleven children, the oldest dying in infancy.

The funeral was held Monday, Rev. A. Bendler of Milwaukee, an old friend, preaching the funeral sermon in German and English. Rev. L. Thom of Marshfield conducted the liturgical part of the services at the church and Rev. A. Baetz of McMillan, officiated at the house. A double male quartet furnished impressive music; the Ladies Aid Society attended in a body, and deacons of the church acted as pallbearers. Otto Hillerman of Marshfield played the organ. Others from away were Mrs. L. Thom, Mrs. A. Paetz, A. Sydow of Rib Lake, M. Hillerman of Medford, C. Hirtenstein and wife of Colby, A. Moecker of Dorchester, J. Ableman of Edgar, M. Haas and wife of Granton, H. Geigor and wife of Naugart, the sisters of the deceased, Mrs. Kruse of West Chicago, Mrs. Zuttermeister of Chicago and Mrs. Huth of Milwaukee; her nephew John Kruse and wife of West Chicago, Olga Hilgendorf of Chicago, Christian Brandt of Horicon, Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman and Mr. and Mrs. Frederich of Lowell, Mr. and Mrs. Lemke of Naugart. Many friends who could not attend the funeral sent letters and telegrams of condolence. The oldest son Paul, who is in Texas with the reserve of the regular army, was prevented by untoward circumstances from being present at the funeral.
