Swoboda, Arthur L. (9 Mar 1935 - 1 Jan 2003)

COLBY, WIS. - Arthur Lawrence Swoboda, 67, of Colby, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford. The Rev. Paul Hunsicker will officiate. Burial will be in Colby Memorial Cemetery in the town of Colby, Clark County.

Maurina Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Arthur was born March 9, 1935, in the town of Reitbrock to John and Amelia (Kropp) Swoboda. He was a 1953 graduate of Medford High School. He was united in marriage to Roberta Stephens on Aug. 11, 1966, at St. Stephens in Anoka, Minn. He then was married to Carol Strelow on June 8, 1984, in Elko, Nev.

Arthur served in the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 4, 1953 to Oct. 4, 1957. He then lived in the Twin Cities and worked 18 years for Federal Cartridge as a tool and die specialist. Art sold real estate in the Twin Cities and then became an over-the-road truck driver. Art moved tack to Medford in 1985 and continued truck driving until retiring due to ill health. He moved to Colby in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and visiting with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Colby; two sons, Allen (Karen) Swoboda of Nerstand, Minn., and Terry Swoboda of Hastings, Minn.; two daughters, Renee (Dale) Reed of Champlin, Minn., and Wendy (Bill) Tschida of Blaine, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Matthew Tschida, Jacob Tschida, Taylor Tschida, Nichole Reed, Dallas Reed, Kelsey Reed, Tyler Swoboda and Brody Swoboda; five brothers, Laverne (Joyce) Swoboda of Milwaukee, Ben (Celia) Swoboda of Walport, Ore., Jerry (Carol) Swoboda of Merrill, Richard Swoboda of Goodrich and Bob Swoboda of Benton City, Wash.
