Free, Elizabeth F. (Marriage - 15 OCT 1921)

A pretty home wedding took place at 9 o’clock Saturday morning, Oct. 15, 1921, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Free in Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., when their daughter, Elizabeth Florence Free was united in marriage to Mr. Rolland D. Babcock of Wynona, Okla. Rev. Walter Trench Scott officiated, and the double-ring ceremony was used. As the bridal party descended the stairs, the wedding march was played by the bride’s sisters, Misses Helen Free and Mrs. R. McCalvy. The bride was given away by her father. She was attended by her sister, Miss Ruth Free, and the groom by Mr. Harry Zimmerman, who came up from the University to be present at the marriage. The bride’s dress was of blue charmeuse, and the bridesmaid’s was of white organdie. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses. The house decorations were white and gold, carried out with autumn leaves and silver and white cob-webs, with vases of fall flowers. After the ceremony a bountiful breakfast was served to twenty-four guests, all near relatives of the bride and groom. The bride and groom were taken by auto to Merrillan in time to get the train on the main line to Minneapolis. From there they went south, visiting for a short time in Kansas City and Tulsa, Okla. From there they will go to Wynona, Okla., where everything is in readiness for housekeeping.

The groom spent his boyhood days here and graduated from Neillsville High School in the class of 1912. He went south to work; enlisted in the army and went overseas as a member of the Medical Corps, where he served for a year and a half. He now has a good position with the Standard Oil Co., having charge of two of their warehouses in Oklahoma. His record here as a student was fine and he has made good in every place he has occupied since leaving here. He is a young man of sterling character and fine appearance, one this community May well be proud of.

The bride graduated from the high school in 1915, and attended Eau Claire Normal School. She has had good success as a teacher, both in country school and in the village of Humbird, Wis., where she has taught for some time. In her school and the community she has had a quiet but strong influence for the best things, in her home she has been helpful and inspiring to those about her. She has a lovely personality that will, we feel sure, bring her such friendship in her new home as is felt for her here where she has lived all her life.

Those from away who attended the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Waters of Humbird, Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Free of Withee and the groom’s sister, Mrs. Chas. Davis of Elroy.
