Hoffman, Anna (24 APR 1855 - 1 Sep 1912)

Word was received here Monday of the death of Mrs. John R. Hoffman, who recently went to Waukesha Moor bath Sanitarium for treatment. Acting on the advice of her physician here she went to Waukesha last week Tuesday, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. W.S. Adams of Spokane, Wash. Upon arriving there Dr. Fleischauer, superintendent, advised that the woman be taken immediately to her home in Greenwood, Clark County, Wis. An automobile was secured as the most comfortable means of transportation for the patient, and started for Van Dyne, where the party consisting of Mrs. Hoffman, and daughter, Mrs. Fleischauer and Miss Fleischauer, wife and daughter of the superintendent, and chauffeur, were to remain overnight with Otto Bertz, Mrs. Hoffman’s brother.

Death came to the stricken one shortly after the party left Theresa. On reaching Fond du Lac a distance of eighteen miles further, the body was left at an undertaking establishment, where Mrs. Adams collapsed.

Deceased was born at Charlestown, Calumet Co., April 24, 1855, the second child of a family of eight children. She grew to womanhood at that place and was married April 23, 1873, to John R. Hoffman.

Twelve years ago the family came to Greenwood and located on the old McMahon farm, which they still own. Three years ago they retired from the active farm life and came to this city, where they made a nice home on Begley St., and were enjoying the fruits of life’s labors.

Mrs. Hoffman had been a sufferer at intervals the past five years from a cancer and a complication of diseases.

She was a member of the German Reformed Church.

The body was received here Tuesday evening and services will be held in the Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon, Rev. Otto Saewert, assisted by Rev. W.T. Hendren, conducting the services.

Deceased leaves in sorrow to mourn her loss a husband and two daughters, Mrs. W. S. Adams of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Mike Neville of Alberta, Canada.
