Jacob H. Barr, 90, Greenwood, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Graveside services for him and his wife, Ruth, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Greenwood City Cemetery. The Rev. Kevin Hanke will officiate. The Greenwood American Legion Post #238 will conduct military honors.

Jacob Herbert Barr was born on Jan. 9, 1915, in Ryegate, Mont., to Fred and Mary (nee Beohn) Barr. In 1923, his family moved to Willard, but he stayed in Montana to live with his Grandma Barr, until he finished the eighth grade. He moved to Willard in 1929, and completed his education in Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1934. He then moved to Cameron, where he worked with his brother, Tom, with horses and cattle. He entered the U.S. Army on April 11, 1942, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 13, 1945. He moved back home and bought a tavern in January of 1946. He married Ruth Ann Johnson on July 20, 1946, in Winona, Minn. Together they owned and operated Barr’s Bar for 58 years. They also purchased a farm in 1950, just south of the bar, which they farmed until 1988. His wife died on July 24, 2004. His interests included playing cards with family and friends, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, hunting, traveling and camping.

Survivors include two sons, Jack (Janet) Barr, Sun Prairie, and Jim (Deb) Barr, Willard; one daughter, Jana (Scott) Herrick, Willard; five grandchildren, Kim, Chad, Cory, Jackie, and Eddie; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Fae Heck, Neillsville; and two sisters- in –law, Sally Barr, California and Bernice Barr, Willard.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Ruth; Three brothers, David Barr, Tom Barr, and Fred Barr; and two sisters, Frances Marg and Edna Paulson.

Donations May be given to the family for a fund to established at a later date.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
