Auburndale - Leonard J. Vandehey, 78, Auburndale, died early this morning at his residence.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale.

Friends May call at the Rembs/Kundinger Chapel after 4 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.

Auburndale - A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale, for Leonard J. Vandehey, 78, who died at his Auburndale residence Monday morning. Death was due to a cardiac arrest.

The Rev. George C. Passehl will officiate. St. Mary’s School Choir will sing the Mass with Marguerite Seitz directing and Sandra Kieffer, organist. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandson, Bob, Bill, Larry and Tom Vandehey, Tim Kraus and Michael Schill.

Visitation will be at the Rembs/Kundinger Chapel, Marshfield, after 4 p.m. today and until 9 a.m. Wednesday, then at the church from 10 a.m. until service time at St. Mary’s Prayer Service will be at 8 tonight followed by St. Mary’s Christina Mothers and Altar Society Rosary Service at 8:15.

He was born April 11, 1909, in Clark County, to James and Nora Vandehey. He received his education in rural Clark County Schools.

He married Ione M. Carpenter, Oct. 16, 1928, in Iron Mountain, Mich. He was employed in Iron River for the Ford Motor Co. until moving to Clark County in 1940 where he was engaged as an auctioneer and in sales positions. They moved to Auburndale where he continued to retail sales there and in Marshfield until his retirement.

Mr. and Mrs. Vandehey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1978.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Holy name Society.

Surviving are his wife: three daughters, Sister Marietta (Mary Ellen) Vandehey, SSND of Milwaukee, Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Kraus of Marshfield, and Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Schill of Wisconsin Rapids; five sons, Leonard E. of Elroy, Frank of Marshfield, Donald of Minneapolis, James of Auburndale, and Michael of Augusta; a brother, James of Abbotsford; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Rice of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Mrs. Margaret Dalberto of Minneapolis; 42 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence on Jan. 20, 1985, a grandson, his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
