MENOMONIE - Charles E. Marvin died Monday, March 28, 2005, at his residence in Colfax. His last wish was to donate his tissues and bones.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at Norton Lutheran Church in the township of Tainter in Dunn County with the Rev. Paul Tobiason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Family and friends are welcome from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the church.

Charles Eugene Marvin was born Dec. 4, 1925, to Charles E. and Velma M. (Seabury) Marvin at 606 W. Blodgett St., Marshfield. Charles attended Grant, Washington, Purdy and Marshfield senior high schools. He graduated in January 1944. Charles enlisted in the United States Army Air Force, where he served from January 1944 until May 1946. While in the service, he attended basic training at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Miss., Electronics at Truax Field, Madison, pre-radar training at Rantoul, Ill., and radar training at Boca Raton, Fla. He also served at Pyote Army Air Force Base, Pyote, Texas, and was discharged from Kelly Field at San Antonio, Texas. He worked for the city of Marshfield Water and Light Department during the summer after his discharge. He attended the University of Wisconsin extension for one semester in their engineering course. Charles then switched schools and for the next three years (1947 to 1950), attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, graduating with an associate degree and a First Class License in Radio Broadcasting. He worked in broadcasting as Chief Engineer in Rhinelander with WOBT, with WCCN in Neillsville, WEAU Channel 13 at Fairchild, UW-Stout in Menomonie and he was assistant Chief Engineer of the PBS Station WHWC at Wheeler when he retired in 1991.

He was very involved with the youth of Neillsville, especially the Boy Scouts and on Dec. 11, 1963, he promoted four young men to the rank of Eagle Scout, Ron Marden, Mike Lulloff, Randy Hendrickson and Ronald Svetlick.

Charles married Elda Johanna (Boldt) Marvin on July 7, 1948, in Marshfield. The couple had eight children, Diane L. (Lee) Ternes of Knapp, Wanda G. (Kenneth) Jennings of Neillsville, Kathleen M. (Bert) Tozer of Bloomer, Lois A. (John) Fisk of Clintonville, Christine E. (Alan) Kabus of Eau Claire, Robert A. Marvin of Phoenix, Brian C. (Dannete) Marvin of Colfax and Michael T. (Kimberly) Marvin of Eau Claire. Charles had two sisters, Verona Elizabeth "Betty" (William) Davy of Powell, Tenn., and Ione Mae Bailey. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and a step-granddaughter, Laura Babbitt Hansen.
