Friday, Spencer police were searching for two men who'd been snooping around villages businesses.

The two men, meanwhile, were burglarizing the Spencer Police Department. They appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court Monday on several charges including burglary.

After the two men were found, officers took them into custody because they smelled of marijuana and refused to identify themselves. They returned to find the police station had been ransacked Entry had been gained by breaking a window and a display case used to show parents confiscated drug users' paraphernalia was broken. One of the suspects apparently saw the case when he was taken to the office last week on a traffic charge.

Police Chief William Hoes said discovering the men "was pure luck." He estimated the damage at $300 to $400.

Both men of Sioux City, Iowa, were charged Monday with, possession of marijuana and criminal damage to property.

On Sunday, Spencer Police apprehended two girls, ages 13 and 15, also from Sioux City, Iowa. The girls, believed to be girlfriends of the two men, were taken to the Marathon County Shelter Home.

Anderson, Delmar (27 March 1936 - 2023) With Flag

Delmar “Del” Anderson, age 87, passed away on April 22, 2023.

Delmar Anderson was born on March 27, 1936, and lived nearly his entire life in the Owen Withee area. As a boy he spent a good amount of time at his Uncle Bill Wirtala’s farm, and in high school worked on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Kauno Niemi, both of which helped him develop a great work ethic and love of the outdoors. He played center on the high school basketball team, and always enjoyed watching NBA, college and high school games. Following graduation, Del served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, toward the end of the Korean War. His Navy years took him to far flung places such as Alaska, Hong Kong, San Francisco and the Philippines, and he had great stories about his experiences, such as riding out a typhoon aboard a ship in the South Pacific.

When he returned from the Navy, Del married Judy Luoma, and they built a family and home together over 64 years of marriage. The family enjoyed years of camping, golf, gardening, fishing, and countless gatherings and holidays full of laughter and good food. Del was an avid hunter and sportsman and bought his last hunting license at the age of 80. He worked at Badger Shooters Supply in Owen for decades, then finished his working years at Mall Furniture of Marshfield. He was very sociable and humorous, and had a good, long life filled with family, friends, and love. We will miss him dearly.

Del is survived by his wife Judy, Children Jeff (Debbie) Anderson, Peggy (Steve) Walter, Sarah (Paul) Birschbach, grandkids Eric (Sam) Hill, Jeremy (Phoebe) Anderson, Peter (Payton) Birschbach and Lily (Samuel Goldberg) Birschbach, great grandkids, Chloe and Layla Hill, as well as many dear friends and relatives.

In accordance with Del’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A celebration of life for the family will be held at a later date.

Many heartfelt thanks to the staff at Clark County Living and Rehabilitation for taking care of Dad during this past year.

Family and friends may express condolences online at www.maurinaschilling.com.

Douglas D. “Bunky” Seefeld, age 74, of Riplinger, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Doug was born on March 18, 1949, the son of Dale and Jo (Conrad) Seefeld in Marshfield. He served in the U. S. Army from 1966-69, stationed in Germany for two years and Vietnam for one year. On March 14, 1970, Doug was united in marriage to Barbara Hein. He built barns for Bruesewitz Builders, worked construction, built stone fireplaces for people in the area and poured concrete for driveways. Doug also painted signs for the Atwood Ball Park, family signs for area farmers and lettered local race cars and milk trucks.

Doug enjoyed drinking with his buddies in his younger years and later years going to Smazal’s Hunter’s Choice for his morning coffee. He enjoyed catching up on the latest gossip, the intense card games that followed and always made time for a game of cribbage at Barb and Darrel’s. Doug liked to play the machines and pull tabs. His favorite time of year was spring when he and Barb could go to his place of peace in Holcombe, jump on his pontoon to catch crappies and tell his fishing stories at the local establishments. He also enjoyed shooting pool, horseshoes and archery and participating in league for all of these. Doug enjoyed the Iola Car Show as well. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and would razz every Packer fan, especially his wife when the Packers lost. He was a member of the Unity American Legion Post #358 and the Colby VFW Post #2227. Most importantly, Doug loved and cherished his family and friends, especially his granddaughters, Shaylee and Shyanne that were so special to him. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Doug is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barb; two daughters: Tammy Seefeld (John Austin) of Abbotsford and Shelli Seefeld-Reise of Riplinger; two granddaughters: Shaylee Martens and Shyanne Martens, both of Riplinger; four siblings: Barb (Darrel) Elpert of Unity, Debbie Coverston of Hazlehurst, Brad “Yogi” Seefeld (Rosie) of Unity and Rhonda Albrecht of Riplinger; three brothers-in-law: Billy (Gail) Hein of Unity, Paulie (Geraldine) Hein of Alexandria, VA and Scott Hein (Cheri) of Owen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Paul and Beverly Hein; four brothers: Jeff, Bruce, Barry and Kenny; a son-in-law, Brian Reise and a nephew, Todd Hein.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Unity. Pastor Josh Kohl will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Unity American Legion Post #358 and the Colby VFW Post #2227. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Legion Hall in Unity.

The fish at Holcombe are breathing a sigh of relief because if Doug wasn’t catching them, no one was!
