Cornest, William August (7 Nov. 1870 -*9 June 1933) * Could be off

William August Cornest, long a resident of the north side, died Friday after an illness of two years. Mr. Cornest was born in Germany Nov. 7, 1870. At the age of 2 years he came to America with his parents who settled at Lake Bluff, Ill. In 1877 they came to Clark County and established a home in Pine Valley, Mr. Cornest, a bachelor, lived alone the past 20 years.

Mr. Cornest was a man of quiet habits, industrious and of a thrifty nature, well liked by all with whom he was acquainted or had business dealings. March 29, 1885 he was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grant township. He is survived by a brother, Louis and 14 nephews and nieces. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Cornest started working in lumber camps in 1886, being employed at Medford, Phillips, and Park Falls as a "spudder," a term applied to the men who removed bark from the logs. During the summer he worked in the Dakota harvest fields and bark work in Taylor county. In recent years he was employed by the county and the Inderrieden Canning Company.

Mr. Cornest's illness took a turn for the worse four weeks ago, since which time he was unable to leave his bed.

Several cousins from out of the city were here to attend the rites, Charles Helming and Mrs. Mary Cole and son and son-in-law of Lake Bluff, Ill.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. E. H. Vornholt Monday afternoon from the Zion Reformed church with burial in the Neillsville cemetery.
