Manes, Charlotte E. (8 July 1849 - 27 Feb. 1933)

Mrs. D. B. Manes (Charlotte E. Ross) was born at Quebec, Ontario, July 8th, 1849. She died at the Hudson, Wis., Feb. 27, 1933.

When she was two years old her family moved to Neillsville, Wisconsin, where her father, Robert Ross, lumbered extensively on Black River, living on the so-called Hewett farm, later moving to the bend in Black river, southwest of Neillsville, now known as Ross' Eddy.

Mrs. Manes was educated at Rockford College, Rockford, Ill., and at the Fox Lake College which was later endowed by Mr. Downer and became Downer College.

She was married to Joseph Ives, to whom were born three children, all deceased.

On November 12, 1876, she was married to Dudley Baxter Manes at Neillsville, to whom five children were born. The family moved to Ladysmith for a few years, returning to Neillsville where Mr. Manes died May 8th, 1915.

Fore the past seventeen years Mrs. Manes has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. B. H. Bunker, at Hudson, Wisconsin.

She is survived by her sisters, Mrs. B. F. Graham, of Minneapolis, Minn., a daughter, Miss Delephine Manes, also of Minneapolis, a son, Dudley Burt Manes of Newport, Washington, a daughter, Mrs. R. W. Butler, also of Newport, Washington. Oscar Foote, a nephew, of Neillsville was her only relative in this locality at the time of her death.

The funeral was held March 1st, 1933, at Neillsville, at 1 p.m. at Lowe's Funeral Home.
