Powers, Jacqueline Kay (26 Dec. 1951 - 26 March 2004)

Jacqueline Powers, 52, of Onalaska and formerly of Humbird died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Onalaska Care Center, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Jacqueline Kay Powers, daughter of Conrad and Verna (Johnson) Walker, was born Dec. 26, 1951, in Black River Falls, Wis. She graduated from Alma Center High School in 1971. She furthered her education, attaining a degree in social work at UW-Eau Claire. Jacqueline worked with the Head Start program in Humbird before taking the job as a family advocate for the Indianhead Community Action Agency, based in Thorp, Wis. She later went back to the Chippewa Valley Technical College and attained an associate degree as an administrative assistant in 2001. In addition to working with the agency, she also cooked for several years at Wildcat Inn in Neillsville, Wis.

Jacqueline enjoyed spending time with her daughters and was very interested in collecting and documenting her family's genealogy. She loved collecting cows and had a large collection that she displayed throughout her home.

Jacqueline married James Powers in 1981 in Minnesota. To that union were born three daughters, who survive her: Jamie and Ben Christensen of Oregon, Wis., and Valerie Powers and Jenna Powers, both of Onalaska. She also is survived by her parents, Verna and Conrad Walker of Humbird, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Memorial services were held March 31 at Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, Wis., with burial at a later date.
