Betty was born Jan. 17, 1941, in Neillsville to Ross and Meta (Kleefisch) Downer. She attended Granton High School where she met her high school sweetheart, James Lee. They were married on Sept. 20, 1958, and raised six children.

She was a lifelong musician and enjoyed playing with family and friends. She retired from her job as an independent painter in 2003. She was a lifelong member of Deerfield Lutheran Church. After many years in Deerfield, they retired to their cottage on Lake Holcombe.

Betty is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Lee, and children, Rusty (Kathy) Lee, Kim Lee, Terry (Paula) Lee, Doug Lee, Carmen Lee; and by nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ross Lee; and one sister, Doris (Downer) Dayton.

The Broken Chain We little knew that morning that God Was going to call your name, In life we loved you dearly, In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone; For part of us went with you, The day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, Your love is still our guide; And though we cannot see you, You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same; But as God calls us one by one, The Chain will link again.
