Northup, John E. (14 Jan 1872 - 30 Jan 1944)

John Edward Northup of Neillsville, passed away at the Neillsville hospital on Sunday evening, Jan. 30, 1944. He had been in failing health for several years, and his eyesight was greatly impaired. About two months ago he became quite ill, and on Jan. 28 suffered a stroke from which he was unable to revive. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Jaster Funeral home, and were conducted by the Rev George W. Longenecker, pastor from the Congregational church. Burial took place in the Neillsville cemetery.

Mr. Northup was born in the town of York, Clark County, on Jan. 14, 1872, the son of Frank and Julia Dwyer Northup. He grew to manhood on his father's farm, and received his education in the home school. At the time of his death, he was 72 years if age and had spent his entire life in Clark County. He was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends.

He was married to Miss Lena Radtke at Neillsville on May 10, 1905. They lived on a farm in the town of York until 1925, when they moved to Neillsville, purchasing a home on 19th St., and have made their home since.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Northup. They are Marion, Mrs. Arthur Kunze, and Ralph Northup, Neillsville; Elmer Northup, and Gertrude, Mrs. Gust DeMert, town of Grant. He is survived by his wife, the four children, and nine grandchildren. One brother, Percy Northup preceded him in death. A grandson Donald Kunze, is in the U.S. Army service in Tennessee. Pallbearers were John Krejci, Edward Gault, Wayne Potter, Louis Cornest, Nick Schaefer, and Abraham Vandeberg.
