FRED R MARTY

Fred R Marty "Fritz", of Neillsville, age 84, died on Monday February 19, 2001, at he Memorial Home in Neillsville.

Fred was born March 3, 1916 to Casper and Emma (Altemus) Marty in Neillsville. He received his education in the Reed School.

Fred joined the CCC at Loretta, WI. In 1939, he joined the National Guard and then in 1940, he joined the Army.

On Oct. 17, 1941, Fred Married Florence Winter at the home of his parents. He served three years in New Guinea before being honorably discharged in 1945.

He was employed as a carpenter, plumber and in heating. Fred was a member of the United Church of Christ serving as an usher and Deacon, post member of the Haugen Richmond American Legion Post 73 and he was also a volunteer for the Fair Share Program.

Fred is survived by his wife, Florence; eight children, Darrel (Aloma) Marty of Port Edwards, Judith (Don) Hillert of Mondovi, David (Debbie) Marty of Marshfield, Cheryl (Jack) Downer of West Bend, Lori Pichla of Eau Claire, Don (Phyllis) Marty, Sandra (Roy) Bieneck and Duane (Tammy) Marty all of Neillsville; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Surviving Fred are three brothers, Jesse (Cathy), and Robert (Marilyn) both of Neillsville and William of Elkhorn; and two sisters, Helen Schoen of Neillsville and Beth Sternitzky of Apache Junction, AZ

He was preceded in death, by his brother Walter and sister Esther.

Visitation will be at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Neillsville Wed. Feb 21 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services for Fred will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Fred’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Rev. James Mohr will officiate, Eileen Zank will be the organist and grandson Jim Pullman will sing and play the guitar. Burial will be in the Neillsville Cemetery. The Haugen Richmond American Legion Post 73 will provide military rites at the gravesite.
