Norbert ‘Norb’ Embke,

Norbert Embke, age 72, of Neillsville passed away peacefully on March 28, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Norbert was born on January 12, 1932, in the town of Pine Valley to Louie and Elizabeth (Bernhardt) Embke. He received his education at Silver Crest School and Neillsville High School. On June 4, 1955, he married Phyllis Krueger in Milwaukee.

Norb served in the Korean War from 1952-54. He was employed as a farm manager for the Winnebago Indian School and Sunburst Youth Homes as Director of Maintenance for a total of 40 years, retiring in 1991.

Norb was a quiet man –a builder –a teacher - a friend to many. His lifelong passion was hunting, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. He especially welcomed springtime when he could tap trees and make maple syrup.

Norbert is survived by his wife Phyllis; and three daughters; Susan (Jim) Popple of Eau Claire, Karen Embke of Minnetonka, MN, Linda Jolivette (Fiancée Scott Fox) of Greenwood, and one grandson, Dylan Jolivette. Norbert is also survived by a brother Walter (Betty) Embke of Marshfield, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, by his parents and one sister. Norb will be deeply missed by his loving family.

Memorial Services were held on Wed. March 31, 2004, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor James Mohr officiated. Music was provided by Eileen Zank, organist and Ertz Steiger, soloist.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Norb’s family with funeral arrangements.
