Anton F. Hein, well known here in early life as Tony Hein, died at his home in Grand Rapids, Minn., Sunday, June 18. He was found dead in bed, having died gently in the night. He was alone at the time, his wife being in the hospital at Rochester, where she had undergone an operation.

Deceased was born at Wrightstown, Brown County, Wis., July 27, 1870. In 1884 he came with the family to Greenwood and the next year they moved to Neillsville, where the father John Hein, Sr., engaged in the stave and heading business in this city and at Heintown in the town of York. Tony kept books for the firm of Hein and Beaulieu and Hein and Meyer under which names the business was carried on for some time.

In 1890 he was married to Miss Maude Stafford. They continued to live here until 1897 when they moved to what is now Rusk County and established a stave and heading business and founded the village of Tony which was named after him. His wife died there in 1900 leaving two children, Joseph, now deceased, and Helene. In 1906 he married Therese Godfrey, of Hibbing, Minn., who survives him.

In 1917 he moved to Grand Rapids, Minn., which was his home until he died.

Mr. Hein was a man of keen business ability, alert to help the community in which he lived; upright and straight forward in all hid dealings and a good friend to all about him.

He leaves his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Lyman Campbell of Stanford, Conn.; three brothers, Frank of Ladysmith, Wis.; John of Chicago; Peter of Tony, Wis.; and two sisters, Frances of Tony and Clara who is in Florida and could not attend the funeral. His wife also could not be present as she is still in the hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Neillsville, burial taking place in the family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery. Those from way who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Hein, Chicago; Mr. and Rms. Frank Hein, Ladysmith; Miss Frances Hein, Peter Hein and Leonard Hein of Tony; Paul Hein of Chicago; Nick J. Hein of Grand Rapids, Minn., Mrs. J. J. Cox and Mrs. Richard Mitchell of Minneapolis and Fred Underwood of Farmington, Minn.

Rev. P. Weber officiated at the funeral.

Maude Stafford Hein

=========================

A dispatch Monday morning brought the sad news of the death, that morning, at Minneapolis, where she had gone for medical and surgical treatment, of Mrs. Maude Stafford Hein, wife of Tony Hein, of Tony, Wis., formerly of this city, where she had spent her life until the removal to Tony two or three years ago.  The remains were brought here for burial, in the lot which hold the remains of her father, Len Stafford, one of the pioneer princes of these parts, who large settlement at Staffordville, two miles north of this city, was, in the early days, as important a point as Neillsville at that time, and where her mother, the late Mrs. Redden, rests with others of the family.  She leaves her husband and two children, and a sister, Mrs. Underwood, now of Baltimore.  For a number of years deceased was, before her marriage, a member if the household of James Hewett, and was popular in society, and possessed many most amiable traits.

Deceased was 29 years old on February 13th.  The children are a daughter, aged 6 years, and a son, aged 4.  She was born at Staffordville.

The funeral took place yesterday forenoon at the Catholic Church.

John Hein, Jr., and his sisters came down Monday night, John Hein, Sr., came Tuesday night, as did also Mrs. Underwood, who came in a St. Paul road business car, which had been placed at her disposal.

Both W. J. Underwood and Theo. Underwood were here with their private business cars, for the conveyance of relatives and friends.

Among those from abroad was Mrs. Rookes of Chicago, former Miss Edna Robbins.

Married

HEIN --STAFFORD -- At the Catholic Church in this city, Tuesday morning, Sept. 1st, 1891, by the Rev. Father Volz, Mr. A. F. Hein and Miss Maude Stafford, both of this city.

KLOPF -- ROBINSON -- At the Residence of the bride's parents, in the town of Pine Valley, Tuesday evening, Dept. 1st, 1891, by the Rev. W. T. Hendren, of Greenwood, Mr. G. R. Klopf and Miss Lottie Robinson, both of this city.

Mr. Hein is one of the most well known and energetic young business men of this city.  He has had charge of a large portion of his father's manufacturing and mercantile business in this county for several years, and has proven himself an unusually competent, thorough and shrewd business man.  The bride, Miss Stafford, is a step-daughter of James H. Reddan, and a most highly respectable and accomplished young lady, who has lived in this city from infancy.  She has lived with the James Hewett family for the past few years.

Mr. Klopf has been a Neillsville boy for several years and is universally respected among his acquaintances.  He was book keeper in the Neillsville Bank for several years, and now hold a similar position in the Clark County Bank.  He is an expert in his line of business, and we prophesy that with his qualifications he is sure to meet with success in the business world.

Miss Robinson is the daughter of David Robinson, of the town of Pine Valley, and the sister of Mrs. James O'Neill, Mrs. Frank Hewett and Mrs. Will Marshall, and is highly esteemed in this city and vicinity.

Both of they newly married couples will make Neillsville their home.  Mr. Hein and Mr. Klopf have heretofore proven themselves to be well qualified and shrewd business men, their selection of wives is a further testimony as to their good judgment and taste, and with this premised facts, who can bespeak anything but  a successful future for the four young people who are just entering upon a new live?  That this future May be a bright and happy one is the wish of the REPUBLICAN AND PRESS, together with hundreds of other  friends.

It is difficult to accustom ourselves to think that Tony and Gus are no longer "two of the boys" but in months and years to come we doubt not that it will grow to be a familiar thought.
