Thompson Service

Funeral services were held Monday from the Georgas funeral home for Robert Edwin Thompson, 78, 201 Court St., Neillsville, who died November 10 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Speich in Eau Claire. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey of the United Church of Christ officiated, assisted by the I.O.O.F. Lodge, No. 198, of Neillsville. Burial was made in the Neillsville cemetery.

Mr. Thompson, the son of the late Francis I. and Cythera (Buror) Thompson, was born July 18, 1882, in Mooleyville, Ky. He received his education in Kentucky and for many years traveled as a musician. He was married October 4, 1913, to the late Laura Glass in Neillsville, and had lived in this community since 1931. He was a painter by trade and designed and painted scenery sets for various theaters. Since his retirement two years ago, Mr. Thompson spent much of his time with his daughter in Eau Claire. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 198, of Neillsville, and was Noble Grand of the lodge this year.

 He also was a member of the Masons and was initiated into the Scottish Rites, Masonic Lodge, at Fort Dodge, Ia. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Polly) Speich of Eau Claire. Pallbearers were: Charles Poole, Arthur Carl, Henry Wallace, Robert Frantz, N.F. Toptine and Fred Subke. Rollie Benedict, Noble Grand, and Elmer Keller, Chaplain, conducted I.O.O.F. graveside rites. The lodge attended services in a body. "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Wilfred Galstad, accompanied by Miss Kathleen Galstad. People from out-of-town here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Don Speich and Jim Nelson, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fehr, Fargo, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Gary C. Speich, Osseo.
