Kelly, Margaret (30 May 1907 - 26 March 1932)

A wave of sorrow swept over this community when it was learned that Miss Margaret Kelly had passed away Saturday, March 26, in the infirmary of the National School of Social Service, Washington, D. C., where she was a student. She has been ill for a few days with the flu but had been able to write to her parents. Pneumonia suddenly developed and in spite of the best medical care and nursing it terminated suddenly in death, only a day or two after its onset. The boy accompanied by her room mate, Miss Mary Mead and one of her teachers, Miss McGuire, arrived from Washington Monday night.

Margaret Robb Kelly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kelly, was born in Neillsville, Mary 30, 1907. She attended St. Mary’s parochial school from which she graduated and entered Neillsville high school, graduating in June 1924. That fall she entered St. Theresa College at Winona, Minn., and in 1928 received her B. A. degree. She taught one year at Caledonia, Minn., and two years at Osage, Iowa, and then ambitious for a wider field of usefulness, last fall she entered that noted institution, the National Catholic School of Social Service. From childhood, Margaret’s life had been one of peculiar beauty and as she grew it developed into one of rich promise. She was quiet in her tastes and manner, but even as a child she was ever alert to help others and be of service to all about her. Here lovely Christian character was shown forth in her every day life and deportment -- in her home a loving and helpful daughter, her faithful performance of her religious duties, her sweet and friendly relations with her schoolmates and her consciencious and efficient work as a teacher. From many, many, who had known her came expressions of admiration of her character, sorrow at her death and sympathy for the bereaved parents and brothers.

She leaves her father, mother and two brothers, William of Seattle, Wash., and Frank of Portland, Oregon.

The funeral was held at St. Mary’s church, Rev. Peter Weber officiating. The pallbearers were Richard Becker, Melvin Ure, Robert Rush, Joe Welsh, Arthur Dux, and Jos. Resong.

Those from away who attended the funereal were William Kelly of Seattle; Frank Kelly of Portland; Miss McGuire and Miss Mary Mead of Washington, D. C.; Mrs. E. M. Mead of Montreal, Canada; Miss Carol Steib, her father Frank Steib and her grandmother, Mrs. McConneley all of Wisconsin Rapids; Mrs. John M. Robb of Toronto, Canada; Miss Esther Adrian, Minneapolis.
