Long, Gertrude J. (17 Mar 1915 - 25 Sep 2004)

Gertrude J. Long, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at the Neillsville Memorial Home. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery.

Gertrude Josephine Podobnik was born March 17, 1915, in Greenwood. to Mike and Johanna [nee Yurkovich] Podobnik. She was raised on the family farm and educated at West Eaton School. In the early 1940s, she moved to Chicago where she worked as a factory laborer. She married Gene Long in 1946, in Chicago. He died in the 1980s. She left Chicago in 1989, and moved back to Greenwood. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and K.S. K. J. Our Lady of Help Lodge #136.

Survivors include one brother, Mike Podobnik, Greenwood; one sister, Mary Hatton, St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gene; two brothers, August and Emil; three sisters, Theresa Mendelson, Millie Arch. And Jen Bandosz.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
