Humlie, Alice M. (29 Jan 1925 - 10 Sep 2004)

Alice Mildred Petersen Humlie, 79, Stoughton, died recently. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Skaalen Home Chapel; Stoughton. Private family burial will be at Luther Valley Cemetery.

Alice Mildred Petersen was born in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 29, 1925. She attended school in Edison Park, Ill., and graduated from St. Olaf College with a bachelor of Science degree in home economics. She later went on to become a teacher. She married Rev. William H. Humlie on Sept. 3, 1949. Together they served Lutheran parishes in Amegard, N.D., Muskegon, Mich., Loyal, and Brodhead. In November of 1990, they retired to Stoughton. Her interests included knitting at the Stoughton Senior Center, Volunteering at the Skaalen Home, reading with students, and quilting at Christ Lutheran Church. The Norwegian culture in Stoughton was a joy to her, especially rosemaling, Syttende Mai, and hardanger. She was a loving wife and mother who accepted the role of care giver with patience and humor.

Survivors include her children Erik Humlie, Madison, Leah [Fred] Naess, Confer, Colo., Claude Humlie, Madison, Karen Humlie, Madison, and Barth [Carol] Humlie, and their children, Benjamin and Jillian Humlie, Burnsville, Minn.; her sister, Grace Van Arsdell, Solana Beach, Calif., nieces; and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, William.

The family wishes to thank the Stoughton Community and the Skaalen Retirement Community for their support and kindness over the years. Memorials may be designated to Skaalen Home or to the M. S. Society.

Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
