Castner, Glen C. (24 Augl 1897 - 7 NOV 1918)

Word was received here Friday morning of the death of Priv. Glen C. Castner, which occurred on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Nov. 7 in Louisiana.

He was taken sick with the influenza and lived but a week.

Glen registered on August 24th, that date being his 21st birthday, receiving his call for service. He left Oct. 21st for training camp at Jackson Barrocks, La. He was eager and willing to go and anxious to do his bit for Uncle Sam. Although in training but a short time he has made the supreme sacrifice and given his all on the altar of his country. Glenn was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Castner, was born in the town of Loyal on Aug. 24, 1897. He has spent all his life in this vicinity with the exception of a few months in the west this summer. He was an industrious, bright boy and beloved by all both young and old, always cheerful and pleasant to everyone, and many friends join his family in mourning his early death. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his parents, three sisters, one brother and many other relatives. The body of the deceased arrived here Monday evening accompanied by an escort. The funeral services were private and were held at the house at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. E. E. Strevey officiating. He was buried in the Loyal cemetery. Every business house was closed from 1 to 3 p.m. as a mark of respect.

The whole community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
