Roehl Family, Alvin

Alvin Roehl, a lifetime resident of the Town of Fremont, Clark County, Wis., and the son of Herman and Clara Roehl, was born in 1913 on the Herman Koser farm, which is known as the William Stichert farm of Chili. When he was two years old, his family moved to a farm three miles west and one mile north of Chili. He attended the Cozy Corner School. As a young man, he worked on several farms in the Town of Fremont.

From 1935 - 1944, he rented the Henry Eibergen farm, 3/4 mile east of the home farm. In 1944 he bought his present farm, the Otto Drescher farm, one mile west and 1/2 mile south of Chili. In 1945, he married Evelyn Sanger, daughter of the Ernest Sangers, also of the Town of Fremont. They were married at ans were members of the former Zion Lutheran Church located two miles south of Chili. They are presently members of Christ Lutheran Church, Chili.

They have four children: Sharlyn, Marlene, Lavern, and Bernette. Sharlyn, now Mrs. David Pullmann of McLean, Va., was secretary to Melvin R. Laird from 1965 - 1971, while he was U.S. Representative and then Secretary of Defense. They have a daughter, Angela, born in 1971. Marlene has been a teacher of mathematics at the Colby High School since 1971. Lavern farms the home place and is employed at the Spry Elevator at Chili. For the past year, Bernette has been a Medical Assistant with the Hemodialysis Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Since retiring from farming five years ago, Alvin has been employed at the Berg Manufacturing Co. at Marshfield, making barn equipment. His wife, Evelyn, has been teaching elementary grades for sixteen years, of which the past 11 have been in the Loyal Public Schools.
