Sternitzky Family, Otto

My father Fred and mother Martha were married in 1903 and went on a honeymoon to Burnett County in a covered wagon. In 1904 they moved to the town of Fremont, Clark County, Wis. to an 80-acre farm in the woods where they built a log house and log barn. Dad cleared the land and in 1905 built a frame barn 36 x 38. He cut wood in winter and hauled it to Lynn and Granton. In the summer he hauled milk to Lynn.

There were four children, Walter, Otto, Ruth and Lydia. All but one of the children were born in the log house. In 1910 Fred built a two-story frame house. In 1915 he enlarged the barn and also built a granary and machine shed. In 1928 he bought 80 acres of the Timothy Lee far. At this time milk was selling for 60 cents a hundred pounds. In 1942 he traded farms with Leslie Todd and enlarged our farm in Section 31. He also built a barn, silo and milk house. In 1947 we built a cinder block shed and granary. We remodeled the house in 1945. Fred died in 1962 and Martha in 1964. Otto now occupies the home farm. He was married on June 16, 1951 to Hertha Kalsow. They have three children, Gloria, Daniel and James.
