Krause, Bertha (2 MAR 1860 - 20 May 1923)

On Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 1923, at 4 p.m. Mrs. Wm. Krause passed away in true faith in her Lord and savior Jesus, at the hospital at Chippewa Falls, at which place the deceased had undergone two operations for cancer of the stomach.

Bertha Plaatz was born March 2, 1860 at New Malwin, Province of Pomerania, Germany. At the age of twelve years she immigrated to America with her parents and settled at Watertown, Wis., later moving to Fort Atkinson, where she was united in wedlock to Wm. Krause in 1880. They resided there until 1893, when they moved to Johnstown, Rock Co. In the year 1903 they came to Thorp, Clark County, Wis. and moved on a farm five miles south of Thorp until about five years ago, when they made their home in the village until she was taken to the hospital. Her marriage was blessed with six children, five surviving. The deceased brought her life to sixty-three years, two months and eighteen days. She leaves to mourn, besides a sorrowing husband, three sons and two daughters, of which Charles Krause, Mrs. O. Darge, W. H. Krause and Mrs. John Barth live in Thorp. Fred Krause if at Fort Atkinson, one sister of Fort Atkinson and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the M. E. Church, the following pastors officiating: Rev. B. Shrels of Chippewa Falls, A. C. Stapel, local pastor. Interment will take place at Ft. Atkinson.
