Wiertz, Joseph (15 AUG 1854 - 26 JUN 1929)

Joseph Wiertz was born in Germany, Aug. 15, 1854 and passed away at his home in this city, June 26, 1929, aged 74 years, 10 months and 11 days. He had been in good health until a few months ago, when he began to fail, for three weeks previous to his death, being confined to his bed.

Deceased grew to manhood in Germany, coming to America in 1882 and settling in the state of Illinois. In 1883 he was married at Cornell, Ill., to Miss Elizabeth Bohn, who survives him. They lived on a farm in Illinois until 1898, when they moved to Clark County, Wis. and secured a farm in the town of Washburn. They lived there until 1909 when they moved to Lynn, and then to Neillsville in 1914, which remained his home till his death.

To Mr. and Mrs. Wiertz were born ten children, four of whom died in infancy and one son, Frank, dying in the war while serving as a Marine overseas. The surviving children are: William of Chicago; Joseph of Minneapolis; Tony of Dayton, Ohio; Carl of Minneapolis; Helen, Mrs. Lawrence Piper of Minneapolis; he leaves also two grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, of which Mr. Wiertz was a most devout member. Rev. Fr. Weber officiated at the funeral.

All of the children were present and one of the grandchildren. Paul Wiegel of Rhinelander, a friend of the family, was also here to the funeral.
