Hoffman, Grove E. (? - 6 March 1926)

A sad accidental death occurred near Shawano on March 6, when Grove E. Hoffman was instantly killed by a falling tree. He stood watching the tree which lodged in a smaller one, breaking off a limb about 4 inches in thickness, which struck him on the upper part of the forehead. The men who were working with him ran at once to his assistance and hastened to a telephone to call a doctor, but it was found that his life had passed away, his death apparently being instantaneous. He had for some time been in the square timber business and was very successful, being the head hewer. He was not only successful in this line, but was very popular with all his associates, and his death cast a gloom over all the community. He was always cheerful and helpful in his won home and in the community. In times of sickness he was ever willing to help with deeds and words of kindness and consolation. The esteem in which he was held was shown by the number of people far and near who attended the funeral. He was indeed a man of noble character.

His death casts a deep sorrow over his home, which so short a time ago was filled with joy and happiness. He leaves a mourning wife and little son Lee, three years old, also his mother who is in frail health and is quite overcome with grief.

He was gone from his mother, his child and his wife, Whom he willingly toiled for, and loved as his life; Oh, God! How mysterious and how strange are Thy ways, To take from us this loved one in the best of his days.
